Cyberleek, a person or group that has been posting daily Grand Theft Auto 6 leaks since last week, released its most significant breach yet on Aug. 26. The leak came about an hour after Rockstar Games publicly addressed the leaks for the first time, calling the situation 'heartbreaking' and asking fans to wait for the game's Nov. 19 release rather than rely on unauthorized clips. The timing also placed the leak one day ahead of Netflix's planned extended look at GTA 6.

The day's leaks included a clip showing a car theft and high-speed police chase through a nighttime city street, ending with a brief cutscene of co-protagonist Lucia Caminos calling out a driver, according to GamesRadar+ and Polygon. Separately, Cyberleek posted a much longer, 4 minute 38 second video described as the game's opening prologue, focused on Lucia's backstory and showing her in prison — marking the first time she had appeared prominently in the leaks and the most story-spoiler-heavy footage released so far, per PC Gamer, Kotaku and GamesRadar+.

Text superimposed on the prologue leak claimed the build was 'actually recent' and that the game is 'not ready at all,' according to Kotaku, PC Gamer and GamesRadar+. The message also criticized Sony and Rockstar over resale rights and alleged that Rockstar was 'killing their own employees' due to crunch ahead of the game's completion. Cyberleek has tied the leaks to a cryptocurrency token, and outlets noted the leaker has said continued leaks depend on trading volume or support for the coin, with a stated goal of $50 million in trading volume to unlock further footage, per Polygon.

The new prison footage in the prologue leak drew comparisons to a scene from GTA 6's original 2023 trailer, in which Lucia looks out a prison window under dramatic orange lighting. Kotaku reported that the leaked version lacks that same bright, cinematic lighting, leading some social media users to claim Rockstar had downgraded the game's visuals ahead of launch, with related posts gaining millions of views. Kotaku cautioned that this conclusion is not confirmed, noting unknowns such as the build's settings, possible HDR encoding issues, and whether Rockstar intentionally altered the scene's look, adding that much of the previously leaked footage has otherwise matched official trailers and screenshots.

Rockstar has pursued legal action over the leaks, including approaching Discord with a court order, according to GamesRadar+, though there has been no formal resolution so far. Cyberleek had earlier called for people to show up dressed as leeks with game discs at Rockstar or Take-Two offices in protest of the decision to release GTA 6 without physical media, and Polygon reported that at least a couple of people showed up with vegetables in hand. As of the prologue leak, 15 total clips had been shared, a smaller number than the roughly 50 clips leaked in 2023, though outlets described the current spree as more spoiler-focused and increasingly brazen.
