Prime Video kicked off September with a huge content drop, adding 98 new films to the platform, nearly double its usual monthly haul. Among the standouts are "The Silence of the Lambs" (1991), the only horror movie to ever win Best Picture, starring Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster; M. Night Shyamalan's "Trap" (2024), a campy thriller starring Josh Hartnett as a serial killer trying to escape a police sting operation; and "The First Omen" (2024), a prequel starring Nell Tiger Free that holds an 84% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes. On the TV side, Prime Video also debuted season 7 of "The Grand Tour" on September 4 with new hosts Thomas Holland, James Engelsman and Francis Bourgeois replacing Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May, alongside all 180 episodes of "Desperate Housewives" and the ongoing fourth season of "Reacher," which holds a 93% Rotten Tomatoes approval rating.

Netflix's new arrivals include season two of Guy Ritchie's "The Gentlemen," following Theo James's Eddie Horniman as he expands his crime empire into Italy with new cast members including Hugh Bonneville and Maya Jama. The streamer also added "Earle Meets World," an eight-episode unscripted series following social-media star Alix Earle, and all three seasons of "The Sex Lives of College Girls," which aired on HBO Max from 2021 to 2024. On the film side, Netflix added the Danish psychological thriller "The Secret Woman," which drew 11.4 million views in its first three days; the 1979 sci-fi horror classic "Alien," directed by Ridley Scott; and "Smile 2" (2024), starring Naomi Scott, a sequel to the 2022 horror hit "Smile."

Hulu's weekend picks include the season one finale of "Furious," starring Emmy Rossum as an FBI agent hunting a vigilante serial killer, a series that holds a 98% critics' score and 88% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes and has already been renewed for season two. Also new is season two of "Chad Powers," starring Glenn Powell, which improved from mixed reviews in season one to a 100% critics' score this season. "The Shards," based on Bret Easton Ellis's fictionalized memoir and set at a Los Angeles prep school amid a serial killer's rampage, dropped its penultimate episode this week ahead of its finale.

Paramount+ added more than 120 titles on September 1, including the new comedy "Scary Movie" (2026), a spiritual sequel to the original two films starring Anna Faris, Regina Hall, and the Wayans brothers; despite mixed critical reception, audiences responded more positively according to Rotten Tomatoes. The service also added "Argo" (2012), the Ben Affleck-directed political thriller about the Iranian hostage crisis that won Best Picture, and "Dunkirk" (2017), Christopher Nolan's World War II film noted for its technical achievements and told across three interwoven timelines.

Altogether, the first weekend of September 2026 offers a wide range of options across streaming platforms, from horror classics and new thrillers to returning reality and crime series, giving viewers plenty of choices for a weekend at home.
